Is there a nuclear disaster yet? ¿Hay un desastre nuclear por ahí?

Funny this plenty-of-information days may found us pretty misguided on the news.

Sadly, Japan lived its worst registered earthquake, followed by a destructive tsunami (tidal waves). Thousands were affected and still are homeless, some less lucky are missing or dead.

However, most attention is now centered on the evolution of the nuclear crisis at the Fushima No. 1 power complex. And having so many "sources" of information is proving to provoque many difficulties to find reliable information on the matter.

My suggestions at the time are:

1. Get local news like Kyodo or JapanTimes, or at least avoid the lag of news caused by international media or social media like Twitter.

2. Follow live blogs, a new trend in media, where updates on the story are posted many times every hour, like these in AlJazeera or in BBC. Don't forget to refresh them or set the current day.

3. Be informed from the source of nuclear news directly from the International Atomic Energy Agency.

En estos días, resulta difícil encontrar información confiable con tantas fuentes transmitiendo y repitiendo información. Se hace eco de información pasada y la situación de Japón hace aún más difícil encontrar esas fuentes que clarifiquen las cosas.

Por eso, algunas sugerencias para informarse:

1. Ver noticias locales como en el Kyodo o el JapanTimes. Evitar información que se está retransmitiendo por medios internacionales o redes sociales como Twitter, por el desfase que tiene; al menos verificar si está al día o son hechos ya pasados.

2. Seguir blogs o live updates que se han vuelto comunes para informar de sucesos en desarrollo y muestran claramente la fecha y hora de publicación. Ejemplos son los de AlJazeera o BBC. Mantenerlos actualizados, recargar o verificar si se actualizan automáticamente.

3. Informarse directamente de las noticias que emite la Agencia Internacional de Energía Atómica.
