Energy crisis in Chile

Derived from the lack of electrical supply, prices rose at a level that many companies can not afford. The causes are related with the lack of investment in a diversified energy matrix and the shortage in gas supply from Argentina. However, the consequences are observed now in costs for producing energy from diesel or the evaluation for new projects abroad.

In addition to Ceramicas Cordillera closure with a complete production line moved out, now CMPC group announces the relocation of the new tissue project in Peru also. Zalaquett label producers for textile manufacturers are going to the northern country, affected by dolar depreciation and higher labour costs. The methanol producer Methanex had to close one of the four production lines, due to restrictions on the argentinian gas sent, and Sigdo Koppers - Enaex also decide to move their petrochemical project looking for a country that already have enough gas supply.
