Chaiten volcano erupts in south of Chile

The images reveal the desperate situation lived by thousands of persons who were forced to leave their homes until the situation of the Chaiten volcano became stable. The presidential order to evacute the affected zone cover a 50 km radius.

The president Michelle Bachelet went to the volcano zone.

Powerful explosions were felt today during explosion and lava was detected by aerial recognition. No people stays in the nearest town of Chaiten (10 km distance to volcano) and Futaleufu begins its own exodus.

People had to leave by sea, due to lack of roads in the zone.

Near cities were covered by ashes, creating a thin white layer over all the objects around.
